You’re only as young as you feel - right? Well, if you want to keep that youthful feeling alive once you’re over the hill, you can’t keep on working your body like you’re still 25.

The two biggest obstacles you’re up against are probably joint pain and issues with flexibility.

Once you’re sliding down the slope of the proverbial hill, so are your hormone levels - especially testosterone and growth hormone. This factor ALONE translates into a 3-5% reduction in overall muscle mass EACH decade after you hit 25!

The last thing you want to do is make the situation worse!

So what CAN you do? These six tips should help get you on the right track…

  1. Make it a point to devote a bit more time to your warm-up and cool-down sessions. This will work wonders when it comes to soreness, joint health AND flexibility. When you’re over 40, not doing it is NOT an option.
  2. Shift your strength training schedule around. If you’re over 40 AND have years of strength training experience, kick back a bit on the frequency (this doesn’t, however, apply to newbies). Instead, begin substituting other types of workouts that train both cardiovascular health AND flexibility. Potential exercises to choose from (feel free to mix and match…) include: running, cycling, martial arts, yoga and even Olympic weightlifting (which is a great way to increase your balance, flexibility and your range of motion.)
  3. Looking to boost your testosterone levels? One way to accomplish your goal is to opt for multi-joint exercises that you can perform with low to moderate (a range of 3-8) reps with longer rest periods in between (shoot for about three minutes). While you’re at it, make sure to avoid high-intensity techniques such as sticking it out for forced reps or super sets.
  4. If you’re more concerned about boosting growth hormone than testosterone, try this: aim for slightly more reps (10-15, still with that multi-joint focus) and cut down your rest period to one or two minutes, max. Unlike training tailored for testosterone boosting, when you’re focusing on growth hormone, feel free to employ higher intensity training techniques.
  5. Worried about join recovery? Try this trick: every time you engage in a heavy workout that’s targeting a specific muscle group, “chase it” with a very light weight workout (of about 15-25 reps). This will help stimulate and maximize overall joint recovery.
  6. Negativity isn’t such a bad thing when you’re over 40. As a matter of fact, you should use negative training every 2-3 months. This will work to encourage the replacement of those older and weaker muscle fibers with younger, considerably stronger ones.

Unfortunately, age is a whole lot more than “just a number.” You can’t just pretend the years away. Fortunately though, with a few simple strength training modifications, you can still stay in shape WITHOUT suddenly feeling your “real” age.

In the long run, it’ll have been worth the immediate inconvenience.

Should You Invest In Beauty Skin Care?

Many consumers purchase massive quantities of beauty skin care products every year in an effort to find a few drops from the ever-elusive fountain of youth. Aging customers place their hopes of a youthful appearance in the hands of beauty skin care specialists and dermatologists, subjecting themselves to torturous treatment and expensive solutions in their quest for beauty. Others are content to age gracefully and keep their hard earned money, showing little concern for signs of aging that are written across their wrinkled faces, necks and hands. These brave souls wear their wrinkles as badges of honor, a testimony of a life lived to the fullest and without regrets. Beauty skin care products for them are as useless as a lifetime supply of toenail clippings.

Many consumers pin their hopes of remaining youthful on anti aging skin care products. In all honesty, lifestyle, diet, exercise habits and genetics play a much larger role in determining how well we age than any anti aging skin care products ever can aspire to. Anti aging skin care products can, however, help erase a few small signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles. They can lighten dark age spots and smooth out an uneven complexion.

Aging skin care differs from caring for young skin drastically. Youthful skin replenishes its own moisture and nutrients to a great extent. Aging skin produces less collagen, resulting in lines and wrinkles and a general thinning of the skin all over the body. Aging skin care products add extra moisture, collagen and vitamins essential to repair damaged skin. Aging skin care focuses on restoration, not maintenance.

The marketing of beauty skin care products is big business for a reason, most of the population is not pleased with the idea of letting nature take its course. We use beauty skin care products to try to beat back the hands of time and feel better about our appearances. America may very well be obsessed with beauty skin care products and the quest for eternally youthful skin.

Beauty Is More Than Skin Deep

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so beauty can be defined as a physical appearance or an intellectual aptitude.

Beauty defined, makes you think of outward looks. Looks that can be manipulated by make-up, plastic surgery, hair color, or a number of things that give a false impression of the true definition of true external beauty. There are many people in this world who are beautiful by their looks, and every individual has a preference as to what makes a person truly outwardly beautiful. While I may find Johnny Depp the most handsome man alive, my sister may think he’s not, Brad Pitt is her look of choice.

When you put on make-up, straighten and/or color your hair, have plastic surgery, are you truly representing physical beauty or a persona of beauty? Outward beauty can be purchased, inward beauty can only be learned.

Brains are something that, too, can be manipulated. I can take an IQ test, score 145 and be considered intelligent. My sister can study her brains out, hire tutors, and participate in activities that stimulate her intellect, and still be considered intelligent. I may never study, do homework, or listen in class and pull a C in school, while my sister,has done all the above, pulls an A in school, and she would be considered the brains.

So which is more important? I do not see the difference, they can both be manipulated and calculated to be whatever you choose you want to be.

Beauty Doesn’t Have To Be Expensive

Where do you buy your beauty supplies? If you buy them from a department store- you are paying way too much! I was a department store buyer for many years. I was hooked on a particular brand, and I thought that the products were only available at the department store. I was wrong. With a little bit of time and research, I was able to shave off 50% of my beauty supply bill. Imagine what you could do with the extra money. The process is actually really simple. All you have to do is find the right websites.

Many of us are hooked on a particular brand of beauty supplies. We have used them for years, and love the way that they make us look and feel. The price tag however isn’t very pretty. Try doing a search online for your favorite beauty products. You may find that auction sites such as EBay.com have really good deals. Make sure to find out about shipping and return policies. I am a sucker for a free shipping deal, so try to find them whenever possible. You may also be able to purchase the product directly from the manufacturer’s website. Look for online promotions that will give you discounts on the items you buy most. Coupon sites can give you even better discounts, so shop around.

If you are feeling adventurous and want to try a new cheaper brand, have no fear. Most websites will include a list of ingredients for all of their products. You can then compare this list with products that you have tried before. Look for products that have natural ingredients. If you can’t produce anything on the label, chances are its not a good deal. There are many companies that focus on creating cheap designer knock-offs, so you may get a fragrance or cologne for much less than the name brand.

Buying beauty supplies online can be a lot of fun. You will be amazed at the level of savings, and pleased with the final product. Try getting together with friends and family members to compare beauty regimens. You may find a new product or item that you cannot live without. Always remember- beauty doesn’t have to be expensive!
